Frank Legan Advisors at Cedar Brook Group

Why I Became a Financial Advisor

By Frank Legan

People choose their respective careers for many reasons, whether it’s potential for advancement, a desire to use their skills in a specific arena, or even income possibilities. But for me, it was all about helping others. I wanted a career that would allow me to add value to people’s lives and help them achieve a bigger future they only dreamed of. With an interest in finance and an understanding of how much of an impact money makes, I decided to put my passion into action as a financial advisor. Thankfully, I got the opportunity to do just that when I joined the team at Cedar Brook Group and helped develop The Humanity FactorTM, focusing on each client’s unique story.

Starting Out

Before entering the industry, I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Dayton, as well as a master’s degree in public administration, focused on municipal management, from Cleveland State University. Not long after graduating, I started working as a financial advisor in the private client group at Merrill Lynch and, eventually, NatCity/PNC Investments. My decade spent with these companies was pivotal, not only because I gained hands-on experience in the industry but also because it honed my vision for how I wanted to help people with their finances.

I saw that focusing on numbers, first and foremost, was not serving my clients in the best way possible. I wanted to design plans that were truly customized to my clients’ lives and reflected their values and goals. Thankfully, I got the opportunity to do just that when I joined the team at Cedar Brook Group.

My Career Today

It has been my 10 years at Cedar Brook Group that has allowed me to focus on helping my clients gain clarity about their sources of pride and passion. Instead of chasing market returns or pushing specific financial products, my clients get the opportunity to learn about who they are and what matters most to them. This ensures they can make more meaningful decisions about their finances within the context of their unique life, and we can provide more tailored recommendations that fit each unique story.

As Partner, Financial Advisor, and member of the Investment Committee at CBG; I serve business owners, artists, corporate executives, families, and retiree clients. We work together to implement personalized financial planning strategies, focusing on lifetime income strategies, investment advice, and estate planning services. I also work with businesses to develop strategic and succession planning strategies.

The Highlights

My ultimate goal is to help my clients build, preserve, and transfer wealth so they can live an inspired life. I consider it a privilege to be their guide, helping them have clarity and confidence in their bigger future. By minimizing the dangers to their financial security, clients spend more time with the people they care most about and do more of the things they love. This is what is so fulfilling about our unique approach to our industry. That is something you can’t put a price tag on!
