Best of 2022

I have always been a fan of “year in review” lists, articles, news programs, and sports shows. I remember one particular moment many years ago when I stayed up way past my bedtime to see which song was the #1 song of the year. Much to my satisfaction it was “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor! Please know the year was 1982 and I was 9 years old.

With this in mind, I thought it would be fun to create a best of list for 2022. I’m often asked, what are you reading, listening to, watching? So here is what had my attention this year:

Favorite Podcast:

All In

The podcast features finance industry veterans & besties Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks & David Friedberg. They cover all things economic, tech, political & social. I find this both informative and entertaining. I look forward to each weekly episode.

Favorite Non-Fiction Book

The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan with Dr. Benjamin Hardy

I have been a client of Dan’s Strategic Coach Program for the last decade. He is a great thinker, mentor and friend. The book is about how we measure our progress in life. We all have an “ideal” target that is by definition out of reach. When we measure ourselves against that ideal we’re in the Gap. When we measure backward and realize how much progress we’ve actually made, we find ourselves in the Gain.

Favorite Fiction Book

The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles

A delightful story of comradery and adventure with a cast of characters that I just loved. I found myself slow reading it at the end because I didn’t want it to be over. Don’t be intimidated by its size, just shy of 600 pages. It moves quickly and beautifully.

Favorite App

My Fitness Pal

I’ve been using this for a couple of years. I log my food and exercise each day. The app keeps track of my nutrition (calories, nutrients, macros) and progress toward my ideal weight. It’s not for everyone, but it appeals to those who like the the old saying, what gets measured gets done.

Favorite Health Tip

Inside Tracker

I subscribed to this service in the spring. I’ll be 50 next year and I’ve been thinking a lot about my health lately. The service requires a blood test. The result is the tracking of multiple biomarkers to help gauge how you’re doing in different areas, like blood oxygen levels, kidney and liver function, inflammation, among others. They follow up with a plan to help you optimize your health and longevity. Another cool add on is they can track what they call your “inner age”. I was happy to see that mine was 5 years younger than my chronological age.

Favorite Streaming Series

The Bear

There is so much good content out there and I have limited time to watch it. I loved the Bear. It’s only 8 episodes, although I was quite skeptical after episode 1. I’m so glad I stuck with it. I really enjoyed the characters, the performances and how it all came together in the end.

There you have it. My best of list for 2022. If you like this, we’ll do it again next year. If you have suggestions for new or different categories I’d love to hear them. In fact, I’d love to know what your favorites were! Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year.
